Nathan Drake is the creator of Reawaken Hymns and Mina Studio.
Reawaken Hymns aims to demonstrate that hymns don’t need to sound "old". It is a free resource to worship leaders and musicians to help incorporate hymns as a natural part of the modern worship service as opposed to an unnatural sounding concession born from conflict.
The vast majority of the hymn melodies are kept original, so that all ages can sing together. Just a classic hymn in a modern musical context.
Mina Studio is a place for tech tips, cheap tech hacks, worship leading tips, budget gear reviews and comparisons, DIY worship, and other issues for the church with big ambitions and small resources.
I am the worship leader for an older congregation that is trying to attract younger members and have seen the issue repeatedly. I try to use hymns when I can. I also agree that much of the modern music is intended for performance and not congregational singing. The music portion of our service is intended to be a vocal participation and praise through music. I've seen the 'ancient' piano player who is half my age but still belts out the arrangement on the piano. Thank you for the knowledge that hymns still serve a purpose and can be played in more modern styles than originally written.
